York County Community College Veterinary Technology Program Receives Five-Year Reaccreditation
YCCC has the only in-person two-year accredited Veterinary Technology program in the Maine Community College System and the State of Maine
Wells, ME (12/01/2021) — York County Community College (YCCC) is pleased to announce that our Veterinary Technology program has received its five-year reaccreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). This accreditation comes after a thorough program review and site visit by the AVMA. Extensive work completed by Department Chair Julie Bodkin ensured that our curriculum meets the requirements of both our industry partners and our accrediting body. This accreditation allows the program to continue to accept and graduate students for the next five years. The College received initial accreditation from the AVMA in 2016.
"This was truly a team effort and would not have been possible without the outstanding support of college leadership and administration." said Dr. Julie Bodkin who took over program leadership this past summer. "I want to thank my wonderful students for their patience and support during that busy time and those that participated in the process! I look forward to continuing to improve and expand this amazing program!"
YCCC has the only in-person two-year accredited Veterinary Technology program in the Maine Community College System and the State of Maine. After completion of the degree, graduates are able to sit for their Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) which grants them the appropriate license to practice anywhere in the United States.

The recognition is a testament to our outstanding faculty, adjuncts, and clinical staff." said Michael Fischer, YCCC President. "Accreditation would not have been possible without our passionate department chair Dr. Julie Bodkin, our clinical partners, and the countless veterinary professionals that serve on our program advisory board. YCCC is committed to remaining at the forefront of the veterinary technician programs offered in New England."
The updated accreditation status will allow the College to build a new state-of-the-art lab on the Wells campus to better simulate the clinical experience students will have working in the field. The new lab will allow for more skills to be completed on campus and allow for our clinical partners to come to campus to work with students.
