Two Hawks Win Gold at USCAA National Invitational

Michael Crosby in 400m & Izze Gray in Hammer Throw

Wells, ME (05/01/2024) — The trophy case at York County Community College just got a bit brighter after this weekend's Track and Field USCAA National Championships.

Izze Gray and Michael Crosby - the captains for the women's and men's teams - brought home a pair of first place finishes for the Hawks.

Gray's moment came in the hammer throw, where she out threw the silver medalist in the event by a full 1.75 meters (5 ft., 9 in.). Her mark of 33.9 meters in the hammer was the second-best distance of her career and was more than enough to bring home a first-place finish. Gray also competed in the shot put and the discus throw, where she brought home a silver and bronze medal in the respective events.

Crosby started his day with a silver medal of his own in the 110m before setting a personal best time in the 400m en-route to his first gold medal at the USCAA National Championships.

Crosby, who finished third in the event last season, shaved 1.98 seconds off his personal best time to beat Hampshire College's William Krebs by less than two tenths of a second. Michael's time of 58.16 seconds is the fastest 400m hurdle time recorded at the USCAA National Invitational since 2017. "Hard work pays off," said Crosby.

Rounding out a banner weekend for the Hawks, Tyler Davies picked up a bronze in the men's triple jump, Blake Proctor also won a bronze for the javelin throw. For the women's team, Amy Stults finished her YCCC career with a silver medal in the 5000m.
